NFL Stars Join Go Red For Women to Beat the No. 1 Killer of Women at Super Bowl XLIII

Super Bowl XLII Hero NY Giant David Tyree, Tampa Bay Buccaneer Star Barrett Ruud and Bo Ruud of the NE Patriots Support American Heart Association to Honor their Mothers

Go Red For Women is heading to the Super Bowl this year to target a new audience for their women’s health movement – men. NFL stars David Tyree of the New York Giants, Barrett Ruud of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Bo Ruud of the New England Patriots, each of whom lost their mother to heart disease, are working with Go Red For Women to increase awareness of this deadly, but largely preventable disease. Several weeks before his game-winning catch in Super Bowl XLII, David Tyree was pulled out of a team meeting to find that his mother had passed away from a sudden heart attack at the age of 59. Barrett and Bo Ruud’s mother was only 52 when she died unexpectedly of a massive heart attack. Sadly, stories like these are all too common. More women die of cardiovascular disease than the next five causes of death combined, including all forms of cancer.

“One in three women die each year of heart disease, but women are not the only ones affected by this scary statistic,” said Dr. Timothy Gardner, AHA president and medical director of the Christiana Care Center for Heart and Vascular Health in Newark, Delaware. “Consider the men who love them – fathers, husbands, sons, brothers and friends. Heart disease in women affects us all, and it’s largely preventable if we choose to act.”

More Alarming Women’s Heart Health Statistics

  • Cardiovascular disease kills more than 450,000 women each year, which is about one every minute.
  • Sixty-four percent of women who die suddenly of coronary heart disease have no previous symptoms.
  • Eighty percent of cardiac events in women could be prevented if women make the right choices for their hearts, involving diet, exercise and abstinence from smoking.

Super Bowl XLIII Kicks Off With Visual Identity By Landor Associates

Second Super Bowl Identity by Landor Asks Fans to “Believe in Now”

With over a billion fans around the world tuning in to Sunday’s big game, Landor Associates, one of the world’s leading strategic brand consulting and design firms, is proud to announce it created the visual identity for Super Bowl XLIII. Working with the National Football League (NFL), this is the second identity designed by the firm for the world’s largest sporting event. Based on the theme of “Believe in Now,” which asks fans and players alike to make the most of every moment, the logo strikes a balance between the host city Tampa Bay, Florida, and the heritage of the NFL.

Super Bowl XLIII’s visual identity communicates the NFL’s larger-than-life appeal using a bold typeface, graphic style, and unique perspective (or angle) in its layout. Football yard lines are depicted in green, leading up to the iconic roman numerals in blue. The two colors represent the meeting of land and sea in Tampa Bay, while the red and blue stars on either side of the “XLIII” symbolize the two competing divisions: the American Football Conference (AFC) and the National Football Conference (NFC).

Landor’s relationship with the NFL dates back to 2004, when it completed a brand development program that included a revision of their positioning, values, and visual house style communications. Additionally, an internal brand engagement program and brand guidelines, determining the use of the NFL identity, were also developed.

“The Super Bowl XLIII identity accomplishes two goals: to leverage the NFL’s history of competition and to infuse the brand with the urgency of ‘Believe in Now’,” said Nicolas Aparicio, executive creative director at Landor. “We did this by creating a heroic and immediate graphic expression, while still referencing the topography of Tampa Bay to connect with the community.”

Launched at the end of Super Bowl XLII in 2008, the Super Bowl XLIII identity is visible on all event merchandise, advertising, the NFL website, and on players’ uniforms. The game will be held at the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay.

E-SPONDER Brings Together Emerging and Commodity Technologies for Integrated Security Communications

With nearly a quarter of a million people in Tampa for Super Bowl-related activities, efforts to ensure tight security communications and response surrounding the event are underway with E-SPONDER’s integrated solution for planning, tracking and reporting of all security matters surrounding the game. For well over a year now, more than 60 Federal, State, regional, local and municipal authorities have been working with the E-SPONDER technology partnership to plan the security details for Super Bowl XLIII, one of the only major sporting events that receives National Security status. Beginning this week and continuing past the final game whistle, E-SPONDER will connect onsite and remote authorities, allowing them to remotely track all activities in real time with mapping as well as 3-D displays, 2-way radio integration and immediate communication.

“We’re thrilled to be a part of the Super Bowl activities and supporting our long term customers here in Tampa,” said Robert Wolf, President and CEO of E-SPONDER. “Our goal remains to provide the region’s first responders with easy-to-use, real-time collaboration tools to help protect the fans attending events throughout Super Bowl week and the game itself.”

Together with Infusion Development’s Falcon Eye technology, the Tampa Incident Command staff will use E-SPONDER portal to visualize all aspects of the Super Bowl activities. The Microsoft Surface device will display a Microsoft Virtual Earth map of the entire region tracking events, incidents, resources and tasks in real-time using its unique large display, multi-user, multi-touch and interactive capabilities, also allowing it to communicate with remote devices and PCs. With a quick hand-gesture, the map can zoom in and display a 3D image of the city, including detailed views of buildings and streets and real time resource tracking.

Additionally, Twisted Pair Solutions, Inc will provide secure, real-time group communications and interoperability for two-way radio systems and other devices using its WAVE(R) software technology. Fully integrated with E-SPONDER and leveraging Microsoft’s Office Communications Server platform, all law enforcement personnel can quickly see who is available and communicate with them using Instant Messaging, PC to PC Voice, video conferencing and PC-to radio/walkie-talkie methods. This unmatched capability, being used largely in the defense and first responder fields, allows for any user of E-SPONDER to immediately communicate with resources not only in the command center, but directly in the field.

“The City of Tampa and its Incident Commander Major Bennett are leading an outstanding effort to manage security across jurisdiction, expertise and roles,” said Gail Thomas-Flynn, Microsoft’s General Manager of State and Local Government. “In the spirit of the Super Bowl, it truly is a team effort to pull off the complex security effort. The E-SPONDER team has put together a best of breed, cost efficient solution tools that help change the way law enforcement officials interact with digital information. “

These partnerships allow E-SPONDER to continue to be the leader in emergency response and incident command software and to deliver world-class business continuity solutions for our customers. E-SPONDER was first purchased by the City of Tampa in 2005 using Federal Homeland Security grants and has been expanded year over year through the same program. The previous purchase allows the region to utilize E-SPONDER at no additional cost, providing significant savings.
